How does Razor Work?

Razor uses a C++ Dynamic Link Library (dll) to view, modify, remove, and insert data as it flows between the server and client. This data is then give to a C# executable which processes the data and displays meaningful information to the user.

What does Razor need to run?

Razor requires the latest version of Microsoft's .NET Framework in order to run. Once you have downloaded this, Razor needs only a working installation of the LATEST UO Client (at least 4.0.0) to connect to a player run shard.

What type of server does Razor work on?

Razor will work on any server with supports the most recent UO Clients. While is it possible for Razor to function on some older versions of the client, it is not recommended. Razor will only work on servers will accept unencrypted clients. In other words, Razor will NOT work on the Official UO Servers.

Is Razor affiliated with RunUO?

While Razor's lead developer, "Zippy," does work for RunUO, and while this site is hosted on RunUO.com, Razor is not directly affiliated with RunUO. Razor will work with Sphere, POL, UOX, or any other emulator which supports unencrypted clients.

Is Razor affiliated with UOGateway?

No, Razor is not affiliated with UOGateway. Razor does however use a UOGateway DLL by Mr_Fixit to patch out the client encryption.

How do I log in to a player run shard?

We do not offer general support for using emulators, or other UO related tools. If you need help, visit the website of the product you need help with. For help connecting to player run shards, visit UOGateway.

Can Razor be detected?

Yes and No. When run by itself, Razor is undetectable by the game server. Razor mimics the client's packets, and in this way the server cannot tell whether the packets are coming from Razor or the client. HOWEVER, by observing your actions Game Masters and/or shard Administrators may suspect you are using a "3rd Party Tool." Use of Razor on shards where it is prohibited is not recommended.
Future versions of UOGateway may allow servers to automatically detect or block clients that use Razor. If you launch Razor via UOGateway, or any other application, it may be possible for the server to detect Razor.

Is razor a cheat tool?

No, but it depends on who you ask. Razor does not "hack" the server in any way. Razor does not provide a means to do anything that would not otherwise be possible in normal game play. Razor merely provides shortcutrs and extentions to aid in gameplay. Some judges these enhancments as 'unfair,' and thus refer to Razor as a cheat tool.

Is Razor secure?

It depends on what you mean by secure. Razor does not send any information to it's creator(s), or anyone else for that matter. Razor does not decrease the built in security of the UO client (which does not really have any security to speak of anyway).

What is the difference between Razor and Injection?

Injection is a program similar to Razor. Written in C++, Injection offers many similar features to Razor, but seems to have slowed in development and support of new UO protocol changes.

Injection is open source, meaning it is freely available and can easily be modified and redistributed. However, this also means it can be modified to send packets and perform actions not normally possible in UO. Because of this, Injection has developed a reputation as a true "cheat tool" which, due to insecurities in Emulator software, allowed users to exploit many different bugs on a variety of servers.

Razor on the other hand is not open source. This means that no one can easily modify Razor to perform illegal actions. To modify Razor, one would have to decompile it, which is in direct violation of US and international copyright laws.

Razor attempts to verify a player's actions to ensure security for all emulators. In addition, Razor's developer wishes to aid Developers of ALL emulators in ensuring security and stability for their users. Razor does not allow users to hack servers or exploit bugs in server software.
